I need lots and lots of gear. Are there any unbiased sites out there that can show you reviews and comarative ratings? Thanks

Harmony Central provides rather extensive section of gear reviews.

I can't really say "unbiased" since most of the people that are moved to take the time to type in a review do it because they either love or hate a piece of gear.

However, I have found that site to be helpful when I'm making certain purchaseing decisions.

Of the audio magazines out there, I've found Tape Op and Sound on Sound to be the most unbiased. Some of the reviews on the Sound on Sound web site can be viewed for free, others require a current subscription.

I'm an avid researcher before I buy, and I agree with Phyl. Most important, though, as with any type of research, is to read and compare multiple sources to look for agreement and disagreement. Just think, for instance, of how people at this forum regularly disagree on nearly every issue raised. Pro reviewers, regardless of their level of bias, do the same.

When you find general agreement across sources (e.g., about the bang-for-buck of Studio Projects budget mics), then you have something meaningful although even then, in the end, your own personal review may differ because of your specific tastes. But it's a fun and rewarding search, nonetheless.

Best of luck,

J.
