Hello everyone, I have been finding quite a few problems with Windows 7 with regard to recording and general all round audio performance.

I never had these problems in XP, especially after tweaking the OS as preparation for a DAW, however, I cannot remember what I did before and cannot find a similar article for Windows 7.

Im having problems with blips and cracks, and general all round performance. Everything is up to date, and I have even tried to irradicate the problem by installing ASIO4all instead of using my soundcard's ASIO driver - it did not help matters.

This is certainly annoying, and removing the fun from recording. I can handle these kind of problems on the road with my little netbook, but in the studio when audio fidelity is required, it is not acceptable.

I cannot install XP on my laptop - I've tried that - anyway I don't have a 64 bit version of XP, so 32 bit would inhibit the use of much needed RAM.

Any tips, tricks or tweaks any of you can give me to help the performance of my DAW?

Thanks everyone :)

Hi,

You could help us help you if you supplied details of your computer, sound-card and what hardware you are using to get the "blips and cracks" you mentioned.

Well, I didn't think it was necessary to list my system. I have a desktop - which is fast and is having the exact same problems. I switched back to XP on the desktop as a test and it worked perfectly again. The OS seems to be the problem. However, my laptop...

Satellite L550-1CC - Product Specifications - Toshiba

The interface I'm using is just a behringer UCA202.

Like I said, I've tried both the updated Behringer driver, along with the ASIO4all driver. I have tried all different buffer sizes. My system is up to date with regard to Windows updates, and there is hardly any software on the laptop.

I have Cubase 5, however, I installed my old Cubase SE 3 to see if the same problem existed - it did.

Thanks. :)

Ah, amazing what one word does "optomising" lol i was searching with words like "preparing windows 7 for audio" etc and got nada.

No I actually had the same problem straight from a clean system - no firewall or antivirus installed (or in the case of windows - not running). The only thing I installed was the OS, then the drivers then Cubase.

Cheers

Please try any other "real" audio interface, before you give up on your OS. The 202 is not a real audio interface and should only be used if you don't have other options for copying sounds from mp3 players or the like. Under the best conditions the UCA's line are poor interfaces.

Iv'e had no probs with Win 7 64 in fact it's the nuts... If you are using an audio interface ditch the internal souncard (usually in bios) you don't need it. Also do a microsoft Win 7 compatability check.
Good luck
