I'm sounding like a broken record, but let's face it - you guys are my primary source of information and I'm gonna get something soon... So - Dreamland, perhaps, but who has used the Studio Projects T 3 and can tell about it - what its like, best kind of uses, and so forth. I think of it as a C 3 on steroids, and would use it for female solo and choir vocals, chamber music, and other relatively low SPL music. It would not be an every day mic...

I've got a T3... You can see the rest of my mic cab in the "average number of mics poll" or at my website gorbyrun.com. I do not have that much experience with very exspensive studio mics nor do I have "great" monitors so...
With what I have, it's the best sounding mic in my locker. It makes my Rode NT1 sound bad in comparison. My Oktava 319 still sounds good next to it. I've had it next to a TLM 103 and a Neumann U149. They were different, frankly the U149 was nice as hell. But the T3 held up well against it. It was much more colored compared to the Neumanns. I had my best female vocalist for the tests, she prefered the T3 on her voice. I thought the U149 sounded best. My friend who owns the Neumanns prefered the TLM103... so it is a matter of preference. The T3 has IMHO more tube character in it's sound. Less detail than the Neumanns, but not necessarly in a bad way. It's my main vocal mic. It's great on acoustic guitar. It has a nine position polar pattern selector on the power supply, which I really like. It is remarkable how well it did against the U149 considering the price difference.
It's hard for a mic like this not to be an everyday mic.

Yeah, I have a T3.
It's a great mic. I've put it up against TLM103's, and an RCA77DX, a BLUE Mouse and an SM7.
It too is my main vocal mic. Sounds great on sultry female vocalists.
It definately has a character all its own, but I found in cardiod pattern it resembled the BLUE Mouse. Being a tube mic, you can expect some pleasant distortion.
I hope to be able to do a lot more testing/using of it once the new studio is up and running.

I guess what I meant by "not an everyday mic" is that I'm used to my SM57 being a pricey improvement, if you get my drift... I'd be afraid to touch the thing. I keep doing the "one of these or two of those?" dance. Today I'm leaning towards one of these...

T3

Tree,

I am lucky Enough to have acquired (2) C1 , (1) B1, and (1) T3 and even luckier to put it against my Gefell M70 and I have to Say that even though one is tube and one is not, they are awsome for what they are. The t3 has a nice "warmth" sound to it (if i am allowed to use that word). It has the different polar patterns you can pick, which is nice for that little bit of a different flavor sound. Is it better then my Gefell? No. Is it worse? No. I believe with these Studio Projects you get more than you pay for, compared to the heavy's on the market.

t3 fer ye

I've had the T3 for about a year and it gets used rarely. For a recent session i tried it on everything but didn't love it on much. If a drummer is really good, it can make a decent overhead.

What i do love it for is setting it up about 1-3' away as a single mic to record someone singing and playing acoustic guitar. For that reason alone i keep it around.

For vocals it can sound good, especially with lower voices, but i have problems with sibilance on higher voices, even males.

What mic amp are you using on the T3? if you have problems with sibilance, you should close off the pattern towards omni by two or three click, get right on top of it and see if that helps. Of course use a pop filter, and you might try to cut 12kHz 2dB..
