I am looking for a condenser mic. Any opinions on the Oktava MK219?

Depends. What are you going to use it for?

The 219 doesn't seem to have a lot of fans as an all-purpose LDC. Kinda dark, and not particularly flattering on vocals.

The 319 seems to be held in higher regard-I have a 319, and find myself reaching for it first when recording strings and some woodwinds (flute, tin whistle, piccolo). I've tried it on a couple of vocalists, but haven't found it to be better than some of the other tools in the shed.

Quag, here are some questions whose answer will help you;

1) Is it just for you or also to record others?
2) Is it only for vocals, or other instruments too?
3) Is your recording room acoustically treated at all?
4) What's your budget limit in $$?
5) What are you using for phantom power? (most condensers are
non-battery)
6) Is your voice prone to sibilance?
7) Is there a local dealer where you can try different ones out?

Chris

P.S. The mic body of the 219 is known to "ring" on certain frequencies.

I've got a pair that I picked up for $30 each, and I have to say they've been pretty useful in a pinch. I probably wouldn't have bought them if they hadn't been so cheap, but for the price I'm satisfied. I've found also that using a shockmount (I use the MXL shockmount) helps to curb a lot of that demonic resonant ring.

Ive read on another board that some like them for snare...never tried one myself...I like my 319 though.

Oh yes, just to add, I think I spent 2 or $300 dollars on it when it first came out. Did I mention I gave it away? Funny how times change.
