Taking the slow road
scores mainly for g/b/d/vox room for lyrics

If you're only after a program that prints music, as opposed to one that will translate midi to notation, the free LilyPond is good. It is more along the lines of a word processor for notation -- produces nice looking scores but not as intuitive as the commercial notation products.

Of which, I prefer Finale. The relatively inexpensive Print Music version would probably be all you would need.

I also use Finale. I agree that one of the cut down versions of Finale would probably be all you'd need.

cool. i just found the Finale NotePad. looks pretty good, but i don't see any drum noteheads yet, for cymbals, open & closed HH, but i think it'll work for a while.

i check out the others too.

i kinda realized a little late that when i'm playing all the instruments, it's gotta be planned out or i tend to forget what's exactly where, and hand writing it all is too hard especially when it comes to editing, or adding a staff, forget it.

I think Finale PrintMusic is the one for you to consider. NotePad might be a bit too cut down.

I started with Noteworthy awhile back. Easy to use but not as good looking as Finale is (granted I'm still on Finale 2002)
Sibelius I think looks better than Finale, but I never liked the layout of it all so I stuck with Finale.
