I dont use computers for my recording set up, although I do use a Korg D888 which comes with Cubase software.

The software requires windows XP, but this new old Apple I was given has no DVD drive. I really want to give computer editing a shot for the hell of it,,, any suggestions on how I can download the software? I guess I have to get an outboard dvd player unless I could somehow copy the software on a cd...

well if it needs xp, then how are you going to run it on a mac with no dvd drive to even install windows with?
best bet would be to just get an external.

If memory serves me, the 888 can import/export .wav files. Cubase may be bundled, but it's by no means the only editing software you could use with the 888. If your "new to you" Mac has GarageBand, you could edit tracks there and export .wav files for transfer back to the 888, or you could try Audacity, which is free for Mac: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

...or you could try the Mac version of Reaper ( www.reaper.fm )

Or Ardour is now available for the Mac and free ( www.ardour.org )

Better to use a NATIVE program than load up a different OS just to try to get something to run...

BTW: By not telling us WHAT mac you have other than "new old" whatever that means, we don't even know what it's capable of running. We're not psychic....
