Any ideas for a multi virtual instrument plugin for cubase 3?

I'm just looking for something that does not pull on too many system resources which has strings, piano, bass, drums guitar etc for composing on the road with my little laptop.

I would use cubases own instruments but they sound awful. I would use edirol super quartet, but it doesnt have all the instruments i would like. Its also quite heavy on system resources and slow to load.

PS, the music i write isn't electronic, I use midi to get ideas for acoustic instruments down fast. So it's really just "real" virtual instruments i'm interested in. :p

Any thoughts??

Thanks :)

Soundfonts.

Download the free SFZ soundfont player vsti from Cakewalk.

Then you can load in the bajizzions of free soundfont sf2 files from places like HammerSound
The GM (GeneralMidi) collections have the full standard gm instruments.
The reallly large ones (I like Unison, Fluid and Cadenza) are high quality.
Cpu use is low.... I'm running a vacation/travel daw on a NETBOOK with 'em.

thanks i'm going to try both, i also tried reason but i cannot work out how to rewire for more than the stereo out in cubase, and to be honest, it's a messy messy program to work with.

proteus vx doesn't run well on my laptop, it takes an iceage to load up and save. im not impressed with the sounds either to be honest, the electronic sounds are good but i'm looking for natural instruments.

i like to create different sounds from acoustic instruments by adding effects, i'm in the middle of checking the cakewalk thing. all im looking for is a natural generic acoustic drum kit, electric pick bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitars and strings - violin etc.

thanks for putting me onto that timobrian, i've finally found what i was looking for. although i'm having difficulties finding some decent plugins, i have useable ones - which is the most important thing.

the cakewalk program is certainly light weight, and runs perfectly, the simplicity is also a plus point - as having too many features can take up too much screen size on a little netbook- having to scroll all the time is a pain in the ass.

thanks again :)
