Hey, does anyone know of a really good (inexpensive) audio editor to use with Vegas Pro? I've been using the AudioView 32, which came with my old Montego II card, but it's pretty slow. Takes 30 seconds or so to cut, fade, or anything. I just downloaded Cool Edit 96, which seems alright but not great.

'Nuther question--I'm new to Vegas Pro--is there a way to pitch shift a small segment of audio, or is that the job of a separate audio editor. In the programs I used to use, Digital Orchestrator and Powertracks Pro, it was easy to isolate one or two notes and tune them up or down. But those programs don't use real-time plugins, it's all processed effects.

Thanks

i believe with vegas pro you have to open into a seperate editor for that type of application (but i could be wrong...) i haven't had any luck with shareware editors i've tried a bunch and they were all very unstable. if your using vegas i would suggest getting sound forge 4.5 believe me it's worth spending the extra money...

to pitch shift a section of audio in Vegas pro,

select the track, and then select the event(the section you want to pitch shift).

Click on the event(seection) to select it only it.

Right click on it and choose properties.

You will see a tha dialog box that has "mute, lock, loop, normalize, and it also has pitch shift.

choose the amount you want.

this will increase the speed of the selection though.

if you want to retain the normal speed of the selection , then you will have to move it into a new track and choose the pitch shift plugin (if you have it ) on that track.

My copy of Vegas came wit the pitch shift plugin

I agree with zophim x.

You should go ahead and purchase Sound Forge 4.5.

It's well worth it.

Sonic Foundry might even have a demo version of it on their website.

Go check it out. :)

Or you can get Sound Forge Xp for about $49, a good place to start. I actually got it for free after mailing in a rebate.

I personally think SoundForge is about the same level as CoolEdit... so if you're not happy with that you might want to save your money. You can download the Sound Forge 5.0 Beta from the sonic foundry website address SPIN gave and see it for yourself. If you are spending money, consider Wavelab as well. More expensive yes, but also better.
