seriously looking into buying the Digi 002 rack by digidesigns, all looks good so far, comes with pro tools and a bunch of other cool stuff to get started.

but while browsing the fourm, people say that firewire is slow , compared to PCI.... what does this mean to me using firewire on the 002 on my PC. Does this mean when i pluck a note on my guitar i hear it 3 seconds later? will it be a noticable diffrence to the ear ?

( anybody have any clips of the 002 they recorded with " decent " microphones, id like to get a feel for what im investing in )

please send to alecmcmahon@hotmail.com

thanks!

PCI is a shorter route to the CPU and drive.
All cards have latency. If you monitor the input there will be 0 latency.
And, Pro Tools is highly overated. :p

I'm a pro tools fan. But, I don't think you'll find many of them on this site (or at least those who want to admit it). It's still an industry standard and it also seemed to click well with me when other programs weren't. However, it's all an opinion thing. As far as latency problems, you'll be fine. Keep it on low latency to keep your buffers down and don't try and overload your system. The 002 is able to handle 18 simultaneously, so I don't think one guitar note is going to give you trouble. PCI is better...yes, but there are tons of firewire options on the market that will work just as well. If you're really worried about latency problems you can also look at the Mbox (as long as you don't need a bunch of inputs). The Mbox has a Zero Latency function. Good luck.
