I'm a songwriting planning to publishing my songs. For long time I was doing a research to select between PC-Based recording system and Stand Alone machines, I finally decided for the PC-Based way. Recently I found the " Roland Studio Pack" wich comes with the VM-3100Pro mixer, a PCI audio card (RPC-1), cables (R-Bus) and the Emagic Software. In order to select the best one, Does anybody have experience dealing with this gear? I want to recieve advices about it.

Thanks

newbie owns studio pack

i dont heve to much experience with equipment, so i might not know if its better than others or something like that, but i bought the studio pack, i got it 2 weeks ago, i´ve been reading the manual, since then, and triyng out every thing its says it can do, and it seems to work fine, i use it on a pentium III 500 mghz 128 ram, and works fine, the rpc-1 comes with drives for windows Me, but as i´ve read the logic software doesnt take advantege of many windows Me new things (like WDM or something like that),
also the rpc-1 supports 96k but the vm3100-pro works at 44.1, you can choose beetwen 16 o 24 bit. you can automate the secuencer from the mixer, or the mixer from the secuencer and the mix has scenes to memorize your settings for each song. I may dont know about the quality of the compressor, preamps or eq´s since i new to this,
if you need extra info on specs or questions if it can do something ask me, and i´ll check in the manual... there are many things that come in the manual but i havent seem them on roland´s site. so may be i can help you.
the guys at logic say that the logic rpc is basically logic silver. it a little complicated to learn but you wont take more than a week to understand it, it comes with a turbo start video wich is useful, some things on the software wont come as they say on the manuals, when you open logic it wont open the "autoload" file it says, the supposed file is really called vm3100 pro template, you have to rename it to autoload and make it read only since you dont want to modify its settings, then you save your song with "save as".

Dear Swap

Last question (for now):

Using the Roland Studio Pack, Do I have to buy a separate amplifier or the Studio pack come with it?

regards,

hjudex

Do you mean pre-amp? The VM comes with preamps but they don't sound 1/2 as good as my ART tube mp outboard pre-amp. The pres on the VM are enough to get you started though.
