any cubase users familiar with cool edit pro?

A buddy is trying to bait me into making the switch from cool edit pro that I am familiar with to cubase that doesn't seem to impress me at first glance. I like cool edit pro, and being that I know my way around I'm very leary about these sort of things. I don't use any midi instruments so I don't need to sequence anything this is straight up multi tracking and wave editing. If any of you peeps have used both, I'm interested in hearing how the two compare in your experiences.

ummm....little l8, mebbies, but

for what its worth, I have used both Cubase and Cool Edit Pro pretty extensively, and I have found Cubase far more stable and forgiving. Maybe its just me, but when I get a lot of tracks layered up in CE it starts messing up in a big way (don't think its pc power, either). THe best thing, tho, is Cubase's access to VST fx; which are non-destructive and can be modified in real-time. THis makes a real difference to your mixing options, IMHO.

BTW, i use Cubase as a multitracker, not a sequencer. To be honest, i find that Modplug does the trick insofar as sequencing goes.

With Cool Edit Pro 2 the effects don't have to be destructive. You can use them real time. It also has pan, fx, volume, and wet/dry mix envelopes so you can control every aspect of the mix. It is not too great on midi. Ooh and it also has a built in metronome. It is very handy. Only uses direct x plugins though.

CEP 2.0 is just dandy but it still has its issues (quite a few of them) .. I find Cubase has both more power and more flexibility. VST plugins often seem to be less processor intensive to boot. You can also monitor your processor useage as you mix. What I do is track in CEP, mix down whatever is necessary and export the rest as raw tracks (lined up from 0:00:000 of course) into a Cubase session, where I mix and do the balls of the mastering.
 
whatever, rats. As you know.. I Defected to Nuendo 7 or 8 months ago... and I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER!!!

It is SO MUCH better.. I can hardly even express it.

So If you're looking at Cubase SX (which uses the NUENDO Audio Engine) ... go for it. If its some older version of Cubase.. I think its too MIDI.. not your style. Get Nuendo instead. It's expensive.. but SO worth it!

Is it possible to Link CEP2.0 and Cubase?

I like the sequensing from Cubase, but to hell with the audio part(at least on the older versions I used:))!
