Does anyone out there have experience or opinions about Carvin's PA systems? The prices are just irresistable but I don't know anything about Carvin's sound quality.

I'm in a band that's just forming and somewhere in the next year, we're probably going to need something like a four or six channel mixer and some cabinets...this Carvin stuff's looking kinda sweet price-wise....

Thanks in advance for any input!

Some of their stuff is okay but it's pretty low end. Try the system out and see if you like it.

I have a carvin PA system, and i dont think there stuff is bad at all, it definitely can not be beat for price

Our band uses a Carvin PA & the bass player has 2 Carvin bass amps. The PA has average sound quality for this price, but ours picks up a ton of RFI in the practice room (we ended up using a different mixer & just using the Carvin power amp & this improved the sound noticeably. The PA has recently developed a problem where the monitor channel craps out on us randomly. The big bass amp basically blew up (amp & all speakers fried) just by plugging it in at our normal practice space. He had it repaired & now, 2 months later, it blows up again (just the amp). We're pretty much finished with Carvin gear. On the other hand, I like their guitars.

I know quite a few people who use carvin gear and have absolutely no problems with them. My friend tours with a PA1200C for their 3 piece group, and they have had great luck with it. I myself have been playing a Carvin LB70 for 10 years now.

Used to use a some Carvin PA cabs years ago. It was decent stuff. Actually seemed to be a bit better than the Peavey gear back then (early '80's). The bassist I played with a few years back had one of their big power amps, and a couple of their bass cabs. Also decent stuff for the money. No problems with it while we were gigging though I haven't seen him for a year or so.

I agree that their guitars are pretty good too. They used to make guitars from solid curly/flame maple, and Koa. The finish/fret work was excellent. Never played one I didn't at least like.

Peavey has made a big improvement in the quality of their PA gear lately, so don't overlook their stuff.

Stay away from SoundTech. Really cheap junk.

i know lots of people that have moved from all kinds of brands to peavey cause their pa stuff has gotten better by leaps and bounds......... uhmmmm carvin has good warranty service.....my friends carvin blew up soon after he got it and he sent it back to them and they repaired it.........actually they may have just replaced it. i don't remember for sure. he had it back in like 2 or 3 weeks.

my other friend has a carvin guitar amp that sounded ok for a long time, but once he replaced the tubes it sounded badass.

I have some Carvin 2x18 subs and a bunch of DCM2000 amps. The stuff is just fine.

...personal experience....

PA's, live mixers - GOOD
Guitars & pickups - NOT SO GOOD
Guitar preamps, power amps, electronics - DECENT
Guitar amp combos - NOT SO GOOD (not sure about the Legacy series though)

I have been using a Carvin PA1200 for about 3 years now and have had no problems with it. I have pretty shitty speakers and it sounds good. Also, I've run it through JBLs (2 15s and a horn) and it sounded spectacular. You can't beat the price per amount of available channels. I don't like the fact that you can only run one effect at a time.

My $.02
