Dear guys:

I currently started to make tracks and noticed that I won't be able to survive hiss of my on board sound chip, so I want to get a card that is dedicated for making music. What I need to take care of?

I've read all thos technology and functions of the new card from the Creative, it it true that they will do the work to a certain level?

Any comments of this card's music production ability comparing with cards in the same price?

Thanks a lot!

The X-fi is made for gamers. Period. Creative Labs even says themselves that if you want to do music production, look at their E-mu line.

I have an E-mu and it works fine. Also look at Echo, M-audio, ESI, or any other cards for plenty of entry-level and not-so-entry level offerings.

I'm resisting the temptation to knock the X-fi just for being a Creative product. This time they really do seem to be attempting to make a genuinly good sounding interface unlike the Audigy where they tried to fool everyone with numbers (and succeeded rather well!).

See this review...

... where a generally positive response to the build and componants used can be found.

The same author then goes on to take Creative to task for some "snake-oil" claims for the technology...

i think i would stick with a card that is more tried and tested for audio production work. m0audio is a good choice, or echoaudio

The word SoundBlaster should not be used in any sentence that deals with serious (or semi-serious) audio.

soundblasters suck. Esi Juli@ is an excellent card, and you can even reverse one section of the card to have different inputs. Amazing card, best ive ever owned for the price point, ive owned maudio cards, and a lynx as well.

The Juli@ has a MUCH lower latency in ASIO and WDM and an optical output.

In addition the Juli@ has a choice of 1/4" or RCA analog I/O. In terms of sound quality, the Juli@ edges out the muadio stuff as well, in my book.

check it out, you wont be dissapointed.

Yes steer clear of all creative stuff for production work. There are loads of cards out there priced better than creative garbage. emu 0404 is 99$ and has everything you need

Well, for the sake of accuracy and honesty, I feel I must point out that E-mu = Creative Labs . Same company. The E-DSP chip on the E-mu cards is the Audigy2 chip.

I abandoned Creative when they made a hash of the WDM drivers for the SBLive and also didn't like the way support for the E-mu APS (a very expensive card at the time) was dropped because Creative wanted the engineers to make the Audigy instead. So I'm not pro Creative by any means, just offering honest imformation.
