Can anybody recommend headphones that are somewhat like the Extreme Isolation headphones? I have the EI headphones and they are great and I need a second set but would love something in the thirty dollar range. Clearly they won’t be as good but something that is close will do. Thanks

Extreme Isolation are only $77

I'm trying to go cheaper than the EI headphones. Thanks,
Frank

I second the MoreMe's. Nice headphones for the price.. tight as crap though. Oh and the cable is short as hell too.. lol. But still nice. =0)

You can bend the wire bracket that holds the earcups to reduce the "head clamp" effect.

The short cord actually has some advantages in that you won't break the cord when someone steps on the extension cord accidentally - it just unplugs and lives to serve another day. And it won't try to take your head off when you step on the cord.

I think Vic Firth makes a pair of iso headphones for $40 or so. No idea on the sound quality though.
EDIT: Here's the link, more like $60 bucks

The Vic Firth's are crap in my opinion, they sound worse then almost any headphones I have heard. But I guess they are OK for recording drums because they give you a muffled sound (to the drums) that can sound kinda pleasing, like playing with earplugs. Not worth saving $40 or so.

I would say save up for the EI's and you will be happy. I think those headphones are a good overall investment to make at some point.

Okay, thanks. I read some bad reviews on the Vic Firths too, and went with the Senn HD280's, so I didn't have any hands on experience. Just out of curiousity, has anyone tried to make their own pair of iso headphones? I can get a cheap pair of shooting muffs for like $20, maybe somehow get some drivers in there.

I've heard of people taking those shooting mufflers and just puttting those ipod style earphones in there, which seems like it would work decently, but your still still not gonna get the greatest sound.

They work well actully.

I use them when practicing drums and also tracking drums. They cut out massive sound, still leak so you can hear the drums, then you just wear iPod headphones underneath them.

The volume can be low as well as you're cutting out so much of the sound. They're not a patch on the EI headphones but they do the job perfectly. And you don't need a quality sound when tracking drums. You just need to know where you are in the song.

sounds like those sound reducing headphones you get at wallmart for shooting guns for 10$ would work with a small set of headphones. its cheap anyway.

Another vote for the MoreMe's. I've populated my studio with them for the past 2 years and not a single one of them has crapped out, yet.

Harvey, I recognize your cut-and-paste blurb and warranty there- are you selling them through Front End Audio, or are you involved with them anymore?

Take care,
Chris

concerning the MoreMe headphones......how good is the isolation? good enough to track vocals without alot of leakage? think i would be able to hear a metronome leaking into the vocal track? i guess they would have to be an improvement over my open back phones.

Chris,

MoreMe is still me. Front End Audio is a dealer for MoreMe stuff, and a good one at that. I still sell MoreMe's direct as well, but support Front End Audio's warranty service 100%.

1. Pretty damn good.
2. Yes.
3. No, unless you crank the metronome track to where your ears start to bleed.
4. Yes.

If you don't like the MoreMe's (after trying them for month or so), you can return them for a full refund. This ain't a big deal. They do what they're supposta do - nothing fancy. If they don't work for you, you'll hafta spend some more money to get something better.

I can't guarantee you'll like em, but I do guarantee I'll get em to you as fast as possible, and I'll replace them quicker than any company around, if they go bad.

Best bang for the buck.. as far as headphones are concerned.. I've got three! =0)
