Anyone still using the Yamaha MT1X are MT2X on this site?? Lovely machines i must say...I have two MT1X's and one MT2X that works and sounds wonderful !!:listeningmusic:

I think this thread is better in the Analog forum, where most of the tape users hang out.

My first foray into multi-tracking was with a Yamaha MT3X. I had no complaints with my machine, and I enjoyed considerable success using TDK SA90 cassettes.

However, old age and overuse eventually caught up with it, and the microswitches started misbehaving. Maybe I could have done something about it, but that was the time I moved to PC recording,

I had one. I made one of the best Live recordings I've ever made with one. Even now after owning revox, nagra, and other higher end stuff, sometimes miss it. I think the noise reduction was better sounding than other 4 trackers, at least that was my thought at the time.

I had one (or its predecessor) in 1983. I really liked that thing and used it for rehearsals and live recordings into the early 90's. It got old and stopped being reliable, and then I built my first studio....

Though it isn't a 4-track...I do have a Yamaha MTX8 mkII.

It is similar in design to my Tascam 488 mkII...but does not sound as good as the 488 mkII.
The preamps and EQ in the 488 mkII are much better.

I do like using the Yammy MTX8 every now & again though.
It has a certain crispness to it that separates it from the other 8 track cassette recorders that I have. It is best used with outboard preamps for stellar tracking.

Well MT2X was given to me by a friend ,no strings attached it was still in the box under his bed maybe 2 yrs. back now and the little that I had to put in to it(chang a belt or 2) it sounds wonderful !! I recorded some Emerson Lake and Palmer in stereo and the playback sounded better than the CD to me :D
The other 2 (MT1X) baby brothers I bought off of e-bay (in one of them lustful moments) and one came with the wrong power supply and and the other with no trouble along with a copied manuel I beleive. My electronics man changed 2 belts I beleive right in front of me and also advised me how important
it is to have the right power supply!!! But these lil babies sound great for synthesizer for dam sure....and its passed time for me to take em out and use them again !!!:guitar:

Without a doubt!!!
All my synths get tracked to tape and usually stay there unless someone asks me for a recording, then I'll make a digital copy.

I've got the Yamaha MT120. It's sounds good. Is it the same era, series etc.? Wich series are best?
