Well, basically you've done things the wrong way round.
Before you get anywhere near mastering, get the mix right in multitrack view. Only then should you mix down and do any mastering tweaks.
Your question is very general but to improve clarity on your vocal you probably want to experiment with some EQ on the vocal track only. As for reducing or adjusting levels, on AA1.5 you'd want to use the feature called "volume envelopes". These will let you raise and lower the relative levels of your vocals and your backing tracks.
