Any alternatives to the TASCAM 388 for "home recording" multitrack tape machines??

So Ive been a Tascam 388 user for years now, and love it. Everything Ive done has been on that machine.

But...the endless problems and need for repairs is kind of driving me nuts, and Im thinking of seeking out different options...

Does anyone have a recommendation for an alternative to the 388? Could be Tascam or any other brand really. Just looking for a multitrack, 1/4 inch tape machine that I could use at home (ie, not insanely large). Ideally mixer and reel to reel in one, but, if someone has a suggestion for a practical combo of mixer and reel to reel Id appreciate that too!!

The 388 is definitely a unique package. I like to think of it as an oversized Portastudio.

The only other option, especially for 1/4", would be a Fostex and a separate mixer. Other than that, you are looking at 1/2" tape (Tascam 80-8, 38, 48, 58, or TSR8 for example) or cassette (238 or portastudio).
