I walk the line
Are there any 24 track simultaneous audio interfaces for laptop? I'm assuming it would have to be firewire, but I could be clueless as to the other options. And this is pc laptop, not mac, if that makes a difference. It would be for tracking live shows.

I'm also exploring the standalone options, but laptop would be preferable. I just don't know if 24 tracks live is do-able on a laptop.

Thanks.

Nope

From what I can tell, it only does 8 simultaneous analog tracks at a time. I'm looking for 24.

Thanks for trying, though.

Anyone else?

You can daisy chain up to 3 Firepods to get 24 simultaneous channels.

Look into a Alesis HD 24. It wouldn't be direct to your computer but you can transfer it using Ethernet or buy a firewire card which is a bit more stable.

I know you can daisychain 2, not sure about 3.

What about daisychaining a couple of Presonus Firestations? That would give you 16 channels, and then you just need to plug in an adat interface for the other 8. The Behringer ada8000 is pretty cheap.

You'll need a pretty grunty hard disk on that laptop though, maybe an external 7200rpm unit would be the go

Yeah, Track Rat already recommended that one to me. I was hoping for a simpler solution, but maybe it doesn't exist. If I continue to pursue this, I may have to lower my expectations or significantly raise the budget (not likely).

Thanks.

If you had a desktop, i would have said MOTU 24i/o or MOTU 2408mk3...
but in this case, i would say get MOTU 828mkII and daisy chain them together..

yep, you can do three once you get the firmware and software updates.

Since this is for tracking live shows, I'm assuming you need 24 line inputs and you're going to pull a feed from the house console? Or will you take your split Pre-console? in which case, you do want mic inputs. Or is this just for recording and there is no sound reinforcement at all? I'm just curious about the setup, sorry for all the questions.

The Behringer ADA8000 is definetly a cheap/easy way to expand 8 more mic/line inputs into a setup. I have a MOTU 828mkII and a ADA8000 in a 2-rack carrying case, and it's a pretty compact setup I've used with a laptop before (but only an 18 channel setup)

I was just recently using 2 Alesis HD24s as part of a rig at a festival. It's a nice piece of machinery if you go that route.

Rak

Well, I was assuming I'd be taking a pre- out off the console, running that through another board for my own level & eq (for tracking, not mixing) and then post- out each channel (no premixing) to whatever (interface or HD). Then dumping it to pc afterwards for mixing. This would be live at outdoor festivals. A cajun/zydeco band.

I'm thinking this is over my head budget-wise and I probably would end up not having the time required for it anyway.

Another pipe dream bites the dust. :(

Thanks anyway, guys.

Someone go out and have fun this summer for me, OK?

This would be a good time to slip 'em a business card to have 'em drop by the studio!
