Hello Folks,
This is an alternate arrangement of a song I previously posted & used your expertise to mix.
I've tried to apply what I've learnt from the processes over the past 6 months but this time was limited by several tracks being bounced together & hence not available for detailed tweaking.
Nevertheless have a listen if you will & comment if you care to.
Thanks in anticipation.

Oh I know I was all over the place re pitch with the cello. Early in the learning process is my only excuse.

This is the one that I like the haunting vocals much on. They sound pretty cool...has an interesting vibe to it. I don't know if you could bring the vocals up a little, and keep the feel they have. I wold like to hear them a bit more, but they can't lose that sound they have. (if you know what I mean...)

Other than that, I think it sounds pretty good....instruments seem to fit well together.

Very nice overall arrangement and a rich sound. The varied sonorities give the instrumental lines a lot of clarity. Good EQ balance.

The soundstage is unusual... kind of the way you'd hear it if you were playing in the band yourself rather than in an audience in front of a live band... it puts the cellos directly on my right and left, the drums a little ways in front, and the singer much further away.

Some audible edit points in the ending. The cello tone quality sounds good but its performance doesn’t have a lot of confidence, so I'd keep the guitar on the backbeat going till the end, maybe very softly.

Reggae Man !

Good tune Ray, nice arrangement on the instruments.

The instruments are coming out nice and clear and separated. Your mix on the cellos is especially smooth on this track. Considering some tracks are bounced already you still have good separation.

I like the intro guitar (arpeggio), and the distorted lead around 2:12. Good playing and nice tones.

I concur with Tim on the soundscape description. So, the only thing I would like would be to bring the vocals more up front.

Good One!

:D :) :D :)

This is a very interesting tune, just has a different sound to it. I like that, the raggae groove. Nice guitar sound/bass sound/I'm always a fan of tambourine in songs too. The vox are really cool too btw, I might think a little more volume on them would do them justice. Or less verb... they sound a bit distant in the mix. Cello is cool, sounds good.
Nice song man, an out there groove, I enjoyed it ;)

Dogman,
Thanks mate. The version you recall had a counter melody & a pretty straight/melancholy arrangement.
This one was recorded 1st. I originally rejected it due to my poor cello work & the juxtaposition of the sad melody with the up but lazy rhythm. I'll see if I can lift the voice a little.
Timothy Lawler,
Ta! I decided to attempt an "in the band" perspective with the soundstage. Just for the variety. I always struggle with the stereo image because I have centre of the hall audience member in mind - can't shake it. So this was a conscious attempt to break that fixation.
The edit points are actually me clumsily trying to remove bow clunks and hitting the mic. I'll trim the end down & fade before the dips as the guitar finished some time prior.
ido1957,
Thanks heaps. I'll lift the vocals to bring Miriam back a little closer to the pack & up in the mix.
SnakeDog5050,
Kind of you cobber. Another vpote for more vox. I had to chop around her voice a bit as some of the extemporization she tried didn't quite work. The groove is care of a Roland 505 - it has a few excellent presets for such an old drum machine.
THANKS FOLKS.
I'll get back to you with a new upload when I can.
