Hi all,

since wednesday I have CEP 2.0 and the Antares Autotune 3.0 plugin (using it with Direct X8.2). But the Autotune gives me some problems...

When I use the graphical part, my correct pitch works only in preview! When I press ok to process it, the wave physically changes a bit but the result has no effect: everything is still like it was. When I do the exact same thing with the Automatic part it works??? totally unbelievable.... anyone else had this problem.? anyone knows how to fix it?

Btw, I even installed Wavelab for trying the plugin (I though maybe it's a CEP bug) but there I can only process it in Real Time, and then is using the graphical correction impossible...

anyone any Ideas?

Only one idea, and it's not a fix. Some programs don't work well together. For example, every time I run Cool and Fruity Loops at the same time, it crashes my computer. I've contacted Syntrillium and I've contacted the guys at Fruity, but of course they don't want to know about it 'it ain't our problem, dobro - it's the other guy's fault'. I've got a similar incompatibility problem with Cool and my Ultrafunk plugins - some operations in Ultrafunk crash Cool. What a pain.

Maybe you can fix your Antares/Cool problem - I hope so. If you can't, then you'll have to find another program to run it with. What a pain.

Also in the computer recording forum they tell me it is probably CEP's fault and that I should use Soundforge for it. But I want to use with coolpro, I don't want to install new programs and then switch all the time...:(

When two programs don't work together, I don't believe it's the fault of either program. I think it's just a case of incompatibility.

If two programs don't work together, but they're both important to you, then it's time for a tough decision. Which one is more important? Which one do you stop using? Or do you buy a third program that will solve the problem?

I've never been able to get the graphical part to work in CEP 2.0. I've never tried it in any other program, b/c I don't have any others, lol.

Honestly, I assume to this day that I just don't know how to work the graphical interface, which would make it the only piece of software I've never been able to figure out. But, if it's any consolation, I have the Antares Manual, and everything that it says I should be able to do in the GI part does not work. I still don't know if it's a CEP problem, or a Chris problem, but I'll blame it on CEP from now on, lol.

You're not doing anything wrong. I took another shot at it this morning, and I hit the same wall...it would make the change as a "preview," so I could hear it, but then when you hit "okay," it doesn't change the wav file the way that every other plugin I've ever used does, lol.

Ok, that is EXACTELY the same problem as I have... Damnit, Nothing to do about it:-(

That's a bastard. Both very expensive programs too.
Have you tried the CEP2.1 update? Syntrillium may have fixed a bug with this update - can't say for sure though. They only announced improved features - not admitting to any bugs.

Is your Autotune a Dx(fx) or a Dxi(instrument)? I think it may be the latter because it responds to midi notes (doesn't it?). Pretty sure CEP don't support DXi. I still have CEP2.0 and it won't support DX8 plug ins from Sonar (the ones with FX prefix).
Maybe some work arounds?
Record preview back into another instance of CEP and import new file back? If you have a sound card with a Monitor mixer or What U Hear record and multi-client drivers you don't need an analog loop back cable.

I don't have an auto tune utility yet. Tried Melodyne a while back.
Interesting but way overpriced - it's obviously a "work in progress". The demo was taking no chances - Save disabled, no export to .wav and 30 day limited. I got around it by recording it into CEP via my Audiophile2496 Monitor mixer so got a true copy of the effected file.

hi

just wondering...

did anyone come up with some sort of solution to this problem?

i'm having the same problem and it's really pissing me off.
the only thing i've been able to do is , open up a new cooledit pro, and record the "preview" onto it.

maybe, there's some settings or whatever, that will fix it. i've been reading other posts, and it seems there have been other cooledit pro users whom seem to have no problem with the autotune.

Yeah, I found one that works for me. When you're in graphical mode, and you have the setting sounding the way you want, then save that setting as a preset. Call it anything, b/c you're not going to use it more than one time, lol. After you've saved the setting as a preset, exit out of autotune, then immediately open it back up while you've still got the same section of file highlighted, click on the preset you just saved, and hit "okay."

This makes the graphical mode work for me.

Lemme' know if it works for you...I was going to write a patch to fix the problem if it works for other users.

umm im not exactly sure what you're meaning, but i tried it.

but no-go.

firstly, when i retrieve the setting, i think it only retrieves the settings like "retune speed", and doesn't retrieve the line of pitch you want it to change.

secondly, i tried adding and not adding the line of pitch, and it didn't do anything.

damn. thanks for trying though.

okay guys, listen... there is a FIX for this bug. it is documented, and i went through this whole shitty game last year. first of all, if i may... auto-tune's auto mode is worthless compared to graphical mode, and graphical mode is very, very easy to learn and use.

that said, you need to open up one of the readme files in the auto-tune folder. okay? there's going to be a bug list somewhere. you need to find a bug for... i don't remember what program... but i think it's a steinberg one. maybe not. anyway, the entry will describe the problem you're experiencing, so just go through them all. cool edit will not be on the list. doesn't matter. you need to change one specific registry key as indicated in the bug resolution. that's all there is to it. change the key, shut down, restart, and graphical mode works fine. (backup your registry before you change it, dingbat)

everybody's situation's different, but i gave up on auto tune's pitch correction a while back. i've got no studio time to pay for, so i might as well record a track until i get it RIGHT, or at least until i get it interesting. if i were lazy, it'd be a dream come true i guess. but it sucked the reality out of every song i ever used it on. i know it's an old debate, and i sound like a sea-weathered sailor, but is a perfectly pictched track really all that important? i like auto-tune as an effect a whole lot. but music just doesn't seem real anymore with meticulously adjusted, snot-on-a-cracker pitch correction. it's like these photoshopped porn magazines. the skin looks like it's melting.. in the hardcore ones especially, you can't even tell if there's penetration being done. hellllOOOOO??? the penis justs fades into the vaginal vacinity and that's all you've got to work with. no texture or intriguing composition. no thanks. not that i've ever bought a porn magazine. that's why god invented public restrooms

EDIT: i'm almost positive this is the one:
quote from the readme...

Graphical mode changes are not correctly applied in some versions
of Sound Forge unless the graphical mode data is saved as part
of the preset. To correct this change the following registry
entry's value to 1.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER:
Software | Antares Audio Technologies | Auto-Tune 3 DirectX |
Presets | SaveGraphicData

hi... umm don't want to sound stupid...

how do u back up your registry?

oh well... nevermind

i didn't bother backing up. i mean i'm changing one variable. what can go wrong?

if you don't hear from me, it means i've managed to fuck my computer up royal.

I've used the autotune graphic mode with my ancient version of CEP1.2 and it works fine. If you get a little "extreme", it doesn't seem faithful to what you've changed, but for little tweaks it has been great. I had one lady who onced learned I could tweak up a single syllable of a word, and it was all "downhill" after that!!! We spent more time editing than recording.... But hey...she was on the clock...her choice.

I use Autotune with CEP and it works fine.

Forget Automatic mode. Really.

I use Autotune in a way I have never really heard of from anyone else.

I sing BAD... straight up. But, if no other vocalists are around, I do a rough trackof myself on vocals. Here's what i do.
I sing the line. Open Autotune in graphical and LOOK at my pitches!!!
If I got the right attitude on the phrase and the pitches look close, I move on.
My singing has improved because of this!!!

My problem is that after singing for an hour or so, I have found that I can't really hearwhen I'm off of pitch, sometimes as much as a half step. I can hear it the next day though!!!

Now generally, after letting it sit for a few days, I go back and find notes that are a hair off.
This happens even to good singers. Either, re-record the offending phrase OR go back in graphical modeand tweak the offending note. It can't be off by much more than a half step or Autotune will screw it up.
The best places for tweaking are the last note in a phrase that really needs to be in tune before a bridge or chorus.
