Can I connect the "effects out" on my Peavy Classic 30 to a unbalanced line-in on my mixer / (or Firepod)?

I usually start recording by laying down the drum tracks and need a way for the guitarist to play along. I plug my bass right into the board and well as a mic for vocals, but I'd like to get some of the tone of the guitar amp to play along while the drums are recording.

I have concerns over damaging either the board or the FirePod.

As an alternative, I guess I could buy a guitar effects unit, but for recording I use the rich tone of the Class 30, so I don't really need one.

From the owner's manual, which you can download here: http://www.peavey.com/assets/literature/manuals/00585050_3.pdf

Effects Send:
Load Impedance: 1 K ohm or greater
Nominal Output Level: -6 dBV, 0.5 V RMS
Effects Return:
Impedance: High Z, 2 M ohms
Designed Input Level: -6 dBV, 0.5 V RMS
(Switching jack provides Effects Send to Effects Return
connection when not used.)

That means yes, yes you can :)

As notes, there should be no problem with the signal levels to the board but the Peavey output will probably require some clever eq to get it to sound like what you're hearing from the amp. This is why they make "Red Boxes" and DIs with "speaker simulation." A straight guitar preamp signal via an EFX send or LineOut can sound brittle, sterile and/or harsh---or it can be a way to get that distorted-input sound that it sounds like Clapton used with cuts on the Derek & The Dominoes albumn.
