I'm looking at getting an interface, and I'm current thinking maybe the delta 44. Then, I will expand that with the Omni i/o later.

So, two questions. Would this be worth it? Or should I just go with something else, with 8 inputs in and of itself?

How exactly does the Omni i/o connect with the delta 44? Does it connect through one of the inputs, or through the pc, having both cards set in?

8 inputs? i think the delta 44 only has 4 inputs but i may be wrong on that. as far as the omni goes, it looks like a cool little piece of gear. I think the biggest benefit of it is if you don't have preamps to go with your delta 44. I think it just works as a break out box for the delta 44.

That said, i don' tknow if that is the best solution for the price. maybe check out the echo gina 3g or the 1820 by e-mu. just for comparison sake

The OMNI does not add any inputs to the Delta card, it's got 4 ins and 4 outs either way. The OMNI has some mic preamps and a headphone output and acts like a mini mixer. It replaces the Delta routing box and connects directly to the PCI card.

If you want 8 inputs have a look at the delta1010LT. It also comes with 2 preamps. Pretty good for $220

oh. then i guess i misinterpretted the description. :o

yeah, i was looking at the 1010lt, but i figured if i could get away with something smaller and slightly cheaper, then i'd go for it.

but i'm still lookin

Prices down on the Omnistudio

I just went through the same exercise, and then the price came down on the Omnistudio, which is the Delta 66 plus the Omni breakout box which has more features than the standard Delta breakout box. Musiciansfriend.com has them now for $199.99 including shipping. I couldn't pass that up. Since I'm new to this I figured 4 ins would be enough for now, and the convenience of the box made for the card helped make this an easy decision over the 1010lt. May come to regret not having the extra ins, but seems like a good choice for a beginner.
