My builders come in two weeks so im starting to get averagely nervous about getting the perfect layout for my room.

Without telling you what my current plans are, i would like to see what people come up with themself.

The desk will be 92inches wide and must be included in the plan. Along with a sofabed, speaker mounts if possible, and if enough room, a vocal booth.

I cant make any angles walls, but straight walls are fine to build. I can build corner structures though.

Please post your idea's so i can see if im going the right way about this, or maybe to give me more ideas on ways i can approach it.

Thanks Guys,
tm

38x84 area to the left walled off as a booth.

Nook on the right side for equipment and/or storage closet.

Desk facing North on your drawing

Sofabed toward the south end of the room for farfield listening/bed duties.

This gives you what you want, maintains good symmetry, allows for easy and good treatment of the room, proper seating placement, etc.

This is the same as I have, but im not so sure about the booth. Do you think its large enough? Or could be made smaller to give more storage space?

Here's an idea if you don't need to open the sofa. If you wall up the nook on the left, the booth would only be 3' wide.

Im not too sure if this is practical. And i dont think the bed sould even fit in half of the room. Good idea though :)

This is what I came up with. The only problem is I dont really have much room for storage space.

Anyone have good ideas for storage?

Screw storage, you gotta have a studio! Pile anything you've gotta store, clothes etc, in the corners...

... free bass traps :D

Hah, the clients will love that!

Ive been getting prepared all day for the builders to come. I finally got round to getting my old laptop out, and getting it on the network. Im going to mount it in the vocal booth, and ive installed software so I can control exactly what is on the screen over the network, and also load up the studio webcam over the network so the artist can see the engineer. Who needs glass? :)

I also had a hint of bad luck. My Promega 2 digital piano decided to go bust today, and I had to drive it to cambridge (an hour from here). I wont get it back for another week, which means I may not even have it back for when the work is finished on my room :@

Ah well.

I cant stop drawing diagrams and signal paths for the room. Im really trying to make sure I dont make any mistakes in construction, but i know something will go wrong!

I think a 3x7 booth can be made to work very well. Given it's already carved out for you and won't cost any space and very little money to complete, to me it's a no brainer.
