Hi guys and gals,

I've put up another piece on my website:

The piece is called "Leave Me Alone, I'm Having a Crisis." It was one of my first experiments with ACID, the audio loop editing tool from Sonic Foundry. I like the overall vibe of the guitar in this tune, but I don't like the abrupt ending. There's also a big lot of hiss at the beginning that I should have cleaned off the guitar track but didn't.

I like the vibe too, cool feel - unique and original.

I cannot hear any of the shortcomings you mentioned. As the loop repeats, it times out nicely and you loose sense of the begining and/or end.

Thanks for the kind words. You like the ending? And you don't hear the hiss at the very start while I sit and wait to actually start playing the guitar? Maybe I'm hypersensitive...

I didn't hear any hiss...
then again I don't have any ears. ;>
I like the irregular beat.

Hey AlChuck,

Very interesting. Nice Guitar sound, great playing.

I do hear a guitar humming/buzzing in the left channel at the start. Easy to edit if your on a DAW, little harder on analog but certainly doable.

Nice job.

A bit at the very very end too, sounds like a noise gate turn off and on, is that a POD gate or something else? I sounds like either buzz generated from having your computer monitor on and too close in proximity, or a ground problem, faulty patch cable maybe. Either way, it's not major and easily fixed. Sorry to nitpick it, but your hearing it - keep your sanity :)

Emeric,

Thanks. Alas, I've lost the original acd files and recorded wavs, have only the stereo mix left (victim of a slightly careless back-up before putting in a new system drive). I have reconstructed the loops and am in the process of re-recording the guitar parts.

Ahh, that's a drag, not much you can do to edit them then... ah well. Good stuff.

Yeah, heard the hiss....but the rest of the mix was really sweet.....trem bar on the guitar very effective sound....good work....gibs

Emeric,

The very end, do you mean the delay playing back the attack of my abrupt stop when I realized the loops ended? :) Or perhaps there's some deatil I have to listen back for. Could be the monitor proximity. I also have dimmers in a couple of rooms and they are often on at night when I try to record and it adds this god-awful hum into the electricity in the house...

gibs,

No trem bar--just wigglin' hands. Thanks on the mix. I felt that perhaps the guitar was a little too predominant.

Heard a LITTLE hiss, tho', via my crappy Computer speakers, it sounded more like cymbals crashing more than anything else.

I thought this was a well constructed tune. Jamming with Acid Pro can be a cool thing. I personally am afraid to touch that software, but well, nice to see someone doing something creative with it. And it was VERY creative.

Thanks, Shakey...

How come you're afraid to touch ACID? (No, you wise guys out there, I'm not suggesting she start tripping.)

AlChuck,
This tune would feel good to hear as I'm driving the car on an autumn day. It kind of has a gangster feel to it. I liked it a lot.
