Another Newbie: recording platform?

Hey Guys.

I'm just starting here and just starting to be sorry for my wallet...

Well, I love music as you all do and I'm starting a home studio for fun. Invite some friends, play some blues, rocks and bossa nova. Record it and make a CD for them. (bring your blanks please...)

In Brasil imported stuff is very expensive so I can not go hi end. I'm starting with:

a) Behringer MX2004A console

b) AKG C100S (1)

c) AKG 880 (1)

d) Behringer B1 (2)

I'm putting all together right now.

Please feel free to comment about my gear. :(

Need help deciding about a recording platform:

a) ADAT? I can get an used one for low $

b) PC? I have a PIII 450 desktop and a PIII 500 lap top

c) 8 track digital machine ???????

Well, need your patient help.

I thank you very much for any help. And I know I'll live this place.

Best

Ari

Yo Ari:

Nice photo -- nice start -- hope you are in a room that can take the expansion you will incur as you get into recording.

There are several digital boxes that record 8 tracks at once -- and that is more than I ever use at once.

I'd go for a digital box after you research, unless you want to go PC.

I like the Yam 2816 which I use. Great sound. Great flexibility. It does more than I will probably ever learn but so far so good and I burn the CD on the same box.

Suggest you design a space for cables, mics, odds/ends that you will collect as you record.

It's a fun time.

Happy New Year

On the flip side, if you went with a PC, you could go with an M-Audio Delta1010lt or an ST-Audio C-Port for your 450 desktop. You should be able to record 8 24bit tracks at once (I did it with a C-Port and a 433mhz box). Get some recording software, and you're in business.

Nice rack, by the way :)

I haven't used one, but I've seen a bunch of threads - do a search and check them out.

Dear Green Hornet and Seanmorse79 !!

I thank you very much for the help and there is a decision: I just bought a BR 1180CD and I have a good reason for that. Here, it is not a place where you find any thing you want. And I found a Roland dealer in my town, and they had in stock a 1180 and for a good price.

I understood it's limitations and the way I know I go some day is PC recording, but for now, I'm happy with this solution just because it was easy to solve. Now I have more time to think, research and find another solution in the future.

I'm glad you guys liked my rack and by the way it's made in São Paulo. If you want some directions, feel free to ask.

Once again, thank you so much and have a very Happy New Year full of health and peace !

Best

I just used the BR1180CD the other night to record our high school jazz band, yes, while I was playing drums....hehehehe, anyway, it had a very easy to use interface, and I liked it a lot. ANywhoo, just thought I'd share, have fun AriC!
