Ok im very new to recording, and ive ehard its better to sue a computer ove a digital reocrding but i dont have the option to get a computer plus I want to be able to take it anywhere. Im thinking about the Zoom MRS802. It has a bunch of cool stuff ,a fully programmable drum machine and a 20 gb harddrive.. I know its not a real drum set but it could work for laying some ideas down. Sounds like a good idea to make some demos and stuff.

With that said what orders do i record the parts in?
Do I lay the drum parts down first?

Now I want to record guitar parts too. Can i run it straight from my Digitech GNX1 pedal or do i have to mic my marshall amp. If I use a mic then what kind of mic. Ill be also recording some keyboard parts. Can I just use the head phone jack to the recorder?

Please Tell me everything i need to record, and make it sound good. Also if this matters or not ill be recording mainly melodic metal style kind of music. Thanks everyone.

I'm not an expert in the Zoom but if you're close to a dealer, why not plug it in right on the showroom floor and take it for a drive?

You don't have to record the drums first, but if you're planning on adding them later, you'll need to at least record the other parts with a click track (unless you have perfect timing, of course) :) Personally, i'd record at least a scratch drum track first.

If you have the option of micing the amp, go for that. I'm not familiar with the Digitech, but it has been my experience that a miced amp will almost always sound better than a direct recording -- especially if it's just an effects pedal, and not an amp sim or anything. A Shure SM57 would be a good choice for micing, you could probably get a used one on ebay for ~$50.

Good luck,
