Another Newbie MIDI Question... I know you guys get tired of them..

Anyway, as I said in the title this is a newbie midi question. I am not new to audio recording, but I am new to the midi scene. I would like to take my recording to the next level by adding midi capabilities to my existing system. I have a Delta 1010 card with a midi I/O. I want to be able to write music in a score and have it played back through different sounds. Like, I can write the music in a program like Cakewalk, but I want it to sound as realistic as I can get it. I primarily want to do strings. Anyway, my question really is: What sound module do I need to start off with and what software would enable me to use this sound module in the manner that I want too? Thanks in advance. Henry

Just about all recording software has midi capability and score features.
The module your looking for ?? Too vast.
The best thing to do is go to a music store that has many to choose from and try em out. Some units are all in one {Strings, synths, bass, percussion, etc...} some are limited to certain instruments. And prices will definately vary from $200-$2000

Anyway, you can use soundfonts if you also have Creative cards. Or in case you don't have one, you can use LiveSynth Pro (use it within SONAR) or Virtual Sampler to take a bennefit of soundfonts. They (LiveSynth & Virtual Sampler) turn your -unsupported soundfont card- to play soundfonts. Go search for threads related to soundfonts and MIDI in Cakewalk forum.

FYI, synths and sampler are machine. No matter how good they are, you'll need to learn many tricks to make 'em sound real.
