My cheap plastic computer microphone records better quality sound when plugged into my sound card mic. input than an expensive Peavey mic. Wondering if I need an impedance matching adapter. The Peavey mic. has an XLR-to-1/4" cable and I added a 1/4"-to-1/8" adapter to connect to the sound card. But the sound is muddier and there is more hiss with this mic. connected. Do I still need some kind of impedance matcher?

never use the computer mic input for anything other than a computer mic... to record from your peavy you need to run the mic through a pre-amp and then into the line in of your soundcard...
