Another Newbie Here

Just thought I'd say hi. My name is Blair. I write Christian songs, play the guitar and sing. Just about to join NASI. Will start attending meetings of the Atlanta Christian chapter. I'll be able to get songs critiqued by experianced songwriters. So I going to start doing simple recordings at home. I've got Audacity and a Lexicon Lambda interface. I also have a Audio Technica 2020 mic. Figure I'll just use that at first. My hopes are to find a person to do collaborations through NASI, so I don't plan on getting any software or hardware till I find who I'll start collaborating with. I don't plan on being able to make professional demos. I just plan to make recordings that can be listened to and critiqued then when the song is demo ready I'll go into the recording studio and make a professional recording.
So, I'm not looking to start a studio, and I don't think recording is easy.
I'm sure I could learn over a long period of time, but for me the time will be better spent writing, and playing, and singing.
I'm just reading a lot of threads to pickup some information instead of asking you the same questions every other newbie asks, over and over, and that you are sick of awnsering. I don't even know enough yet to know the right questions to ask.
I am thinking that eventually I'd like a stand alone recording unit to record then mix tracks on the computer. Thanks for all the information I've already gotten from the site.

With the software and technology we have these days, I think it's better to skip the middle man and just do it all on the computer. I wouldn't bother with a stand alone unit. I'm not familiar with the interface you mentioned and have not heard much about it. If your only goal is to get sound into your computer It should suffice being that you are just looking to sketch down some ideas.
 
Thanks M.G. I do already have everthing I already need for basic recording. And able to do it in a uncomplicated quick way. I am looking into getting a zoom H2 for more portability
 
Ahh. The h2 is cool. I wouldn't mind having one myself.
 
I'd like a H2 or a H4. I have a old Yamaha MD8 that records onto Mini Discs. Can record up to 8 tracks at once. I haven't used it though. No effects and have to transfer it to computer in analog.
