Well, that sounds pretty good to me. How did you have it, on a stand or mounted to the horn? Sounds like it's on a mic stand.

It's on a stand..."aimed" between midpoint and the emboucher point of the horn.

Yeah, the sound fades around a bit, might be a good one to clip to the horn.
 
Great point...

But this player will never do that...he's scared to death of microphones as it is. Next time we record a practice, I'm going to set up three mics on him - MSH-4 in the middle, and two MSH-2's to the side in a three-D type configuration. Perhaps the blend will give it a bit more stereo field while evening out (a bit) the volume differences due to his movement.

Thanks for the suggestion in any case - really appreciate the time doing that. In any case, I'm pretty happy with Jon's miniature tube mic.

MSH is the best 40 bucks i have ever spent. My MSH-1O actually almost satisfy my urge for a better drum overhead sound. Im constantly impressed at the value. I would of loved to listen to your clip but I couldn't seem to play that file format. Though, I can rest knowing that it probably sounded good.
