another metalballad..

When I think of a ballad, I usually don't think of something played at close to 300bpm, so this caught me off guard a bit.
The playing was pretty tight, however, I couldn't hear the bass. Was there any bass on this track?

..no bass and I, after all am a bassist. Pity me..

I had to eq away alot of it since with bass drum it got very boomy, I thought it was still there but could be imagining that since I know what's being played... still hear the downward pattern on start with small button-earphones. But some parts octave higher have vanished...

any sense in re-mixing the basstrack in since eq:ed the boomyness out from the bassdrums?..

Muhaha! the speed can set you off a bit, but the melodies and lack of screaming made it a "ballad" in my screwed head. :)

Solo the bass drum and the bass. Use a low-pass filter and cut some of the low (below 250hz) out of the kick drum until they sit together. It's the problem with the kick and the bass guitar: they tend to occupy the same freq range.

If that doesn't work, you may have to retrack the bass.

mixed..

now I think its REALLYaudible?

better... or what?

Yeah, I can hear it now, but it brought up a couple other things you may want to look at: the cymbal crashes are a bit harsh.
Bring the guitars down just a tad, and you have it.

Are the guitars DI (Direct In to the board) or through a processor?

Thanks you Rokkit

Yeah, I noticed the cymbals since you mentioned that. The guitar I'll leave loud, it's sorta common on scandinavian metal. :D (F*ck that, I'm just too proud of them.. :D )

The guitars are
guitar-->VOX Tonelab-->recorder.

The guits are muddy as hell. Try doing the guitar wall for a thicker sound and make sure the mic is as close as possible to the amp.

The re EQ'd bass is better but isn't really enough. You do need to think this one through as there's not enough grunt in the bottom end.
Ballad is, properly, a story in song.
Modern usage has it as a softer, mid to slow tempo love song.
The lead lines from 1.05 are really whimpy - what happened?
Cymbals are almost annoying but the snare sound really is.
Not a bad little construction though. How about a melody?

allrighty..

The bass, guits and drums seem to be bad...
Oh sh*t, that leaves nothing. :D

...back to the drawingboard.

Final shot

duh, mixed again.

removed almost all of pick-attack to clear guits some, boosted bass to ridicul-planet, silenced cymbals, re-eq-ed snare some. That's it.. can't do better at this point.

Been fighting half the day because of some weird clipping from the left, until realized that there is something loose in my headphones.. funny ha-ha :o

Hmmm...I still don't like the tone. Are you recording direct? The riffs are still cool though. I'd say still take out low end on the guits and let the bass dominate on the low end. Turn up the kick and snare a little and pan out the cymbals. The lead could be a bit louder and have some reverb. Well, hope this helps, don't take me too serious. I'm not sure why I'm up so early, I was drunk like 4 hours ago and passed out and for some reason I woke up with energy and here I am....hmmm strange.....

Get drunk before da hungover kicks in!!! :D

Yes, i'm doing direct.. Most of the tone loss I blame that 120euro ibanezer scrooge I'm forced to use at the moment. ..only one at home, its got some reallybad humbuckers that can't produce a clear sound. Killed everything below 400 and upped the high-end but that's best I could do without killing the pickgrinding completely. :( the lead is so middley that if turned up takes over the whole scene, that's why pushed to back.

Nah, before I'll get a singer of some sort I'll leave that as it is...
After the bass became audible I like this most of my songs in a while, really moves on without dragging it's ass.

Damn hard trying to play anything slower anymore, everything sounds lazy. :D

Jouni - listened to the last mix only...
Good mix except I would like a bit more on the lead solo parts...
Great playing, drums are excellent. Good job......
That Ibanez sounds good. The bass is right on....

:) :D :) :D

I disagree dude. I heard it again and unless my ears decieve me, I think it still needs some work man.

Wheyy, at least I'm not attacked with a unified front. :o

Thanks to everyone sincerely, this has been educating.
