Hi everybody!!!!

Here's another of those (annoying?) lists of "is this gear OK?"

So you've had your opportunity to go!!!!!

My unfinished bedroom studio:

A neumann tlm103 going into a dbx 286A mic pre amp
then straight into the tsr-8 tape deck.

I suspect the pre is not good enough? (ie optimum)

The tape output via a fostex 812 desk which I intend to replace with a mackie vlz pro 1604

I intend to mix to a revox b77 15ips which I should have by Tuesday!! (being serviced)

Then out to a m-audio 2496 card into the cdr world

If you're still with me......rode NT1, lexicon MPX1, rnc compressor.

Any comments, advice, critique would be very very welcome.

I need to learn how to use all this too!!!

thanks to all who have helped me in the past...

Nice set up!:)

I'd loose the Mackie and get a TASCAM M312B or an M320B which is a much more versatile board with more routing and monitoring capabilities, plus it's pre's sound great all by themselves and thus no need for even the dbx pre-amp which is not a bad machine.

The M300 series is an older, discontinued line from TASCAM but, where the Mackie was designed to sell around $1000. +-, the M312B was originally $3400 bucks and built accordingly.

Now, on Ebay, they sell for about $300. A superior desk at a lower price.

Cheers! :)

Yeah, I'd lose the Mackie too. They're OKAY, but for that money you could do MUCH better in the sound department. my Allen & Heath System 8 is a $1,000 for example. It's 24X8 and sounds GREAT. Much better than the Mackie. For that or less you could probably find a 16 channel version. Then you don't really need the 286 at all.

I don't like the rodes other than NT5's, NTV's, NTK's, or Classics. Others do, but I think there are better mics for the money, or at leat equal mics for less money.

I've got an ADK Hamburg that cost $300. It's great!
