I just read this document

All_Cubase_Feature_Comparison.pdf
sorry i don't have the link for it, I found it here
http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8431

anyways, it says that the number of physical ins and outs is 4 for cubase LE.
I am thinking about getting a firepod so I can record 8 simultaneous tracks of drums, so will I be able to do this with the cubase LE that comes bundled with the firepod?
thanks

sure will be able to. Presonus' website even has a Cubase template that you can download that has the ten simultaneous track set up. Actually, you may not be able to track the SPDIF at the same time as the analogs, but I could be wrong on this. When recording, if I do a digital track I have to set the clock source to SPDIF, but I never checked to see if the analog inputs worked at the same time.

I ditched on Cubase though, it wouldn't recognize the Presonus ASIO driver. I'm now using Tracktion and it's way more straight forward. It lets you concentrate on music production rather than program settings.

what does the presonus ASIO driver do?
I'm new to digital recording and I have a Powermac G5 for my design work, I used to do all analog recording with a studio that I borrowed every summer from my old high school music teacher. But he is retiring(boo), so i don't get to borrow the equipment anymore.

so do you think that the firepod with cubase LE is a good deal for the $600?
That's about all I can afford to spend.

thanks for the response.

the ASIO driver is for programs like Sony Vegas and others that require ASIO-style drivers to allow the program to be able to stream multiple inputs at the same time.
ASIO also boasts low latency when used properly.
If you have a mac, you will not be using the ASIO drivers (correct me if i am wrong - i am a PC man, myself).
Its quite easy to hook up the firepod to the mac... no weird installations or anything.
the firepod is an awesome interface. get it and have fun.

ya, definately worth the $600.00. I'm about to purchase a 2nd soon. I hope in the future they'll have it able to stack four of them so you can have 24 track simultaneous recording.... oooohhh.. that'd be nice.. even if I'd probably never do a project with 24 tracks simultaneously.

I've been in contact with Presonus tech support and they say that my issue with Cubase not recognizing the ASIO driver is a first. My guy there, Jonathan, says he's never seen the issue before, and he hasn't been able to trouble shoot it. I've kinda given up on it. When I installed Tracktion I just use the Direct Sound driver and it works fine with almost zero latency. So I'm happy just using that. I'd still like to figure out the Presonus driver problem though.

24 tracks would be amazing to work with. Good luck fixing your ASIO problem
