Fuck yeah! You doing some 80's hair metal? :D

The cymbals sound pretty rough, but the kit sounds pretty cool. Nice kick and snare. I prefer more body from the toms, but those aint terrible.

Can you post a clip without all the reverb?

Thanks for getting back to me man!

Dude, when I play drums, that's the style I come out with!!! :D I really don't think about the pattern, but I'm drawn to the toms and that's why it sounds all Phil Collins-y!

So bring out the bottom end and some mid-range in the toms more? As for the verb, I had the room mic channel up quite high to catch a lot of cymbal (but it seems like you're saying the cymbals are a bit too brash anyways?) but I can tone it down somewhat. Is the hi hat okay?

Yeah, not bad. I also would like to hear without the reverb, but you do have a nice open room sound there. There's something about the snare that sounds weird (though, overall it's not a bad sound)....I can't put my finger on it...it's sounds almost too "bullet-y" if that makes sense. The kik is ok, but it might be a little too roomy, depending on the song.

I think I know what you mean about the snare Rami. There's quite a crack off it and very little wire. I figured that'd be a good thing but it might be too in-your-face...I never thought about that.

I feel I have to come clean with you guys - you know it's an electronic kit right?

Ah well fuck. I was really impressed with your drum tracking skills. Not so much now. :D

Ah well! At least the quality of the samples didn't let me down. No comments about 'fake' or 'robotic' drums this time :) They even passed the Phil Collins test. I'm quite pleased to be honest! They need some tweaking though.

Yeah it sounded pretty good. You could definitely make some nice mixes with those drums.

Fucker! :D :D :D

I know you're going to think I'm full of shit, but I was going to describe that "bullet" snare sound as something I've only heard from drum machines. It really had me puzzled. There is a roll that you do that also made me say "Wait a minute. That sounds like a drum machine". But I just thought that's how you did the roll.

From now on, I trust my instincts. :D

Okay, I'm kidding. The thing is though, I do play my rolls funny...even on an acoustic kit, I find it hard to control the dynamics. Of course, no matter how good your mesh head and samples are, they'll never match the nuances of an acoustic snare. I might try swell my fills a bit...if only I weren't so bad at drums!

My first impression was that it was kind of an ugly sound, but that it might be right depending on the song. Some songs need that amount of slam.

I use a combination of samples and real drums. I'm not sure why the cymbal samples they sell all sound so crummy. Seems like you can record better ones on your first try.

I'd like to know if anybody is using these? :

They have some cheaper versions:

Funny, I was making my own [acoustic] "drum test" at about the same time as the other thread went up, and I've been quietly comparing it, but no fuckin' way I'm posting it at this point :D - my playing would definitely take the boobie prize.

Some of those cymbal samples sound over compressed (or that when they were recorded, they clipped at least one component in the signal chain) to me - I only think that because I just did it myself and had a similar issue.

The whole midi thing confuses the hell out of me...I'm not really sure how a sample can clip (obviously it can't on the way in - not a commercial sample in a pro studio anyways) I tried lifting my cymbals with some heavy EQ...maybe they didn't need it? The OH bus got a lot of compression. Hmmm. I'm gonna have another crack at this later, I'll route dry and then add plugs.
