Another Cubase 7 Thread?

So the UPS dude brings me my Cubase 7 upgrade package today (going from 5 to 7). Unlike Jimmy so wisely recommended (at least I think it was him in one of these Cubase 7 threads), I installed it right away--yes, right in the middle of a 3 song project. 1 done, 1 almost done, and 1 tracked but not mixed. Whew--I was lucky (or good)! Everything works perfectly!

My early assessment? This isn't just an upgrade to some software--it's an upgrade to my musical life! I opened some old projects into it and everything sounds fresh and new! I'm young and hip now. I'm cutting edge, and so is all of my old music!
 
Okay seriously--I like it. I'm an interface/design geek, and I really like what they've done with the place. The hub is seems neato, too. Only one of my many VST instruments didn't work (at least of those I had loaded into this project)--but it was older than the hills and I didn't use it at all. All the plugs that I had used on this project worked as well--no errors when I opened it vis a vis fx.

For now I'm gonna finish up these 3 songs for my client, then I'm gonna take some time to play with the new features--and go through the rest of my plugs and instruments and see if there are any problems.
 
Okay--so I played around before finishing my current project. Duhhh...it's a new toy. What'd you think I would do?

Anyway, I found a VSTi that will have to be updated to work properly--Garritan Instant Orchestra, the Aria player. It loads fine, but it crashes when I play it with the on-screen keyboard. I'll contact them in the morning. That instrument is relatively new, so I'm hoping they'll support me with an upgrade or patch of some sort. All of my other major VSTi's seem to work fine. My amp sims from Overloud (Mark Studio 2 for bass and TH2 for electric) both work fine.

I had one "major" problem. Two included virtual synths, Retrologue and Padshop, didn't work. They didn't show up in the instrument list at all, and when I navigated to their directories from within Cubase, the folders were there but they were empty. The short version (I know, too late) is this--after some online research, I found this to be a common problem. But I got caught up in reading fairly complicated solutions that all applied to PCs. I'm on a Mac. The problem looks the same, but the solution is completely different. So if anyone with a Mac runs into this problem, let me know. I can spell out the fix.

FWIW--those two synths are worth having. Most of Retrologue's sounds are covered in Arturia's Analog Lab--a 3rd party product I already own. If I had Retrologue first, I might not have bought Arturia a few months ago. But I don't have anything that quite covers the pads in Padshop. They are especially sweet.
 
Good to hear you had good luck while changing to C7. I myself had have only a few niggles, and am loving the new mixer, and workflow. There are obviously still some bugs/problems with the software that need to be addressed, but I have had no issues importing projects, nor with any of the problems many seem to have. Of course, I am a PC. Cubase runs best on PC.
