Hey guy's, I'm sorry to post another crackling topic, but I've read a lot of them and still couldn't find the answer for my own, so here it goes.

I have a perception 220 mic and a Yamaha audiogram 3 usb interface. My computer is an hp laptop, with Intel Core Duo 2.20 GHz processor and NVIDIA High Definition Audio running on Windows 7 and Fl Studio 10.

I tried raising the buffers on Asio4All, I tried with the Nvidia controler. I didn't even have a lot of plug ins or tracks on fl studio so I don't understand why the crackling noise on the microphone. All the other things work fine without crackling noises, my electric guitar, and the MIDI keyboard.

Do you think it could be an Fl studio problem? I haven't tried it with any other software, because I really like fl, and I wanted to solve the problem there.

I guess the only solution might just be getting a better pc, I really thought that as long as I kept the recordings to one instrument at a time I wouldn't have any problems with using a laptop and a weak usb interface..

Lol, that's frustrating, I didn't bought an usb mic cause everyone said they sucked..

Well, the OP mentions a Yamaha Audiogram 3 USB interface so I don't think it's a USB microphone.

Have you tried any other combination of mic and XLR cable? That's the first thing to do to make sure the cable and mic themselves aren't the source of the crackle.

I'd normally suggest checking your PC and shutting down EVERYTHING running in background (especially Wifi and anti virus software) but, if you can record instruments fine, then chances are you're okay in that regard...still worth the clean up though.

Hmmmm...please can you specify whether you hear the crackle on headphones while recording or only on playback. Your mention of "not many effects and tracks" is interesting...if you play just the mic track with no effects, is that clean?

No solution but a few things to check at least! :)

I misunderstood that it was a USB mic...

Well...then you need to first identify if it is *analog audio* crackling or *digital clipping or buffer* crackling...and then look for the problem and solution.

I turn my headphones directly to the usb interface so I only hear the crackling when on the playback.
This might answer some questions, I gave it a try with cubase without even increasing the buffer on Asio4All and it worked crystal clear (sorry I didn't try it before posting), so I guess the mic and pc are ok, except the fl studio. So what do you think the problem might be with Fl Studio?

Hey again guy's, really sorry, I kind of freaked out but finally understood what went wrong. I'm a bit new to music editing and I had a plug-in (pitcher) on the mic when I was recording piano, so something made it look like crackling. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help, I think I'm ok now.
