:D :D :D

I've always loved this song, even though I've never liked most of Paul's stuff as much as this tune.

I did the drums with 3 mics. I didn't use the snare track. It just made the snare too loud. I'm in a less-than ideal-dimension room, with a 7' ceiling. I think it helps my snare come through the overheads. But the downside is that I think I hear some cancellation between my cymbals when I hit them too hard.

This is my first mix, so my ears haven't really setlled down. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanx.

LET ME ROLL IT

I love covers!I totally respect a person wanting to write their own music but there are so many great songs already written it's a shame not to play at least a few of them.

I haven't listened to the original in awhile but it sounds like you're doing it straight up and rather well at that.Great job on a cool song!

You really filled the mix with the bass in the quieter sections - nice.
Great vocals mate.
THe three mics seem to have done a good job on the kit. I can't hear any cymbal probs but then again I don't know Authur from Martha.
I always imagined this song was about a spliff.
Terrific job.

Thanx brothahs!!

You appreciate a great vocalist like Paul when you try to do a song that doesn't even seem that hard to do, until you start trying to come close to his nuances. At a certain point, I decided to just SING. If you listen to mine, and then listen to the original, you'll hear the difference between a hack trying to pull it off, and a pro with silk in his voice.

I hate that bastard!!!!

:D

I love the effects on the vocals! You do a great job singing it RAMI!...and drumming...guitar-urring...bassing and mixing.

You have just enough Paulish sound in the chorus and enough of RAMI elsewhere to make it a cool cover with your own roll.;)

What do you mean by the cymbals canceling out when you hit them too hard...going silent for a split sec?

Thanx alot, True!

What I mean by the cymbals cancelling is, I think I hear them bouncing off the walls or ceiling and giving me phase problems. But it could just be my paranoia.:D

You're welkom RAMI!! I'll have a listen again with that in mind.

I really love the high parts in your singing...you do it really well!!! Your voice seems to be evolving RAMI!

Excellent job Rami, very rich tone to this recording. I couldn't help but notice the the bass/drums creating a very solid base to this track. I think there's a very slight difference in the guitar riff but it's still super in any case. Vocals are outstanding and I agree with True that they have evolved since I joined this site and started listening to your tracks. I think you always had it, you're just bringing it to the table more and more each time. OT - what's Paul going to charge you for licensing this?;)

Thax alot, Ido. You know, I had a bit of trouble figuring out exactly how they did that riff. I think I got it petty close. Thing is, I watched some live WINGS videos, and THEY don't even seem to always do it like the record.

As far as the licensing...If it gets big enough that Paul`s lawyers actually hear about it, I`ll worry about it then. :D

I wouldn't exactly call Paul a hack. ;)

Wow. Great job, Rami! Vocals are killer. Guitar tone is great! Harmonies are typical Rami, which means they're awesome! There ARE some differences between Paul's version and this one, but I just figure that's you. You put some of yourself in every cover and this one is no different. Most excellent!

Oh, forgot to mention: The drums sound pretty darned good for only 3 mics!

Oohhhh yeah...I love this tune! Killer version Rami! Didn't expect the vocals to be so close after reading your blurb on the tune...I really think you nailed it man....I bet you could do a killer version of "1985" from "Band On The Run" :). Friggin' rocks man ...no nits here...actually makes me wanna start recording again :p

I've never heard this song, so I don't know how it's supposed to sound. What you got here sounds really good. I love the little snare dribbles and ghost rolls and shit. I wish I could do that stuff. I don't know about those wet vox, but if that's how the original is, then rock on. Good job Rambo. :)

I haven't heard the original either, I don't think. The vox are very well sung, but a little wet with reverb for me. Very well played and tracked!

7-String, Queepy, Greg, and Antichef.

Thanx alot for the comments.

Yes, the original has the vocals that wet. It's not something I would have decided to do myself.

Thanx guys. Time to get back to some original music now. :)

I'm not a big fan of the song, but I think you did an excellent job on this.

I love the kick drum sound, and the rest of the kit sounds just fine to me.

Thanks, RAMI! (I don´t listen this song since 1974 or 75 - I was a child- and I still...:D).Serious,One of first songs I "tried" to learn on guitar...Is like "Helen Heels", another song I love and never more listened.

Nice version! Low ceiling is not definitely a problem, drums sounds big and so well matched with Bass GTR...
Killer guitars!
Excellent vocals (exactly as I remember:)), some little boost between 2 and 5 k would be nice, principally on B part (altough works well as it is)...

Great mix (as usual).

Ciro

That was one of the albums that changed my life. Loved "Band on the Run" Great job. One thing is the tune needs some more stereo spread. I want to hear that big spread as the original did, especially the vocals. "Ho Hey Ho" :)

Thanx alot, Troll. Nice comments. Your troll-ism isn't that obvious. :D

Thanx CIRO. Glad the drums sound good in this room. I know I can even get them to sound better. But I don't spend near as much time working on a cover as I do an original.
:rolleyes:sorry, I was listening with a hi cut in the bus I was using on another project...no, it´s ok!!

Ciro
Hehe...I've done that. :D

Hmmm....You may be right. I just realized that I don't even have the original tune. I learned it from YouTube, which is a mono mix. So, I actually have it more in stereo than what I was using as a reference.:D:D:D

I'm going to try to get a hold of the original and listen again. Thanx, man.

1) Get a job.
2) Never eat yellow snow.
3) Bite me hard for getting such good drum sound on two mics. Recorderman placement?

I can hear the room in the snare, but it sounds good. Your vox reverb mismatches noticeably, I'd consider backing down on that a little, or match it to the "room curve" a little closer... No other nits, ya big dawg. Owoooo!!!
