Another Copyright question

What's up guys. I just finished recording an album for a buddy of mine and we're thinking about getting it copyrighted. I know which ever way we go is going to the whole album for 45 dollars. Would we do 2 seperate copyrights one stating that I own the master copy of the album and the other stating he owns the copyrights for the songs on the album? Also, some of the songs have cowriters should that be a problem? thanks for the help guys.

With all the co-authors, it's going to be more than just a one-time thing... You have to submit a registration (with $45) for each set of authors using Form PA, along with a Form SR (and another $45) for you and him to register the recorded album itself.

Our first CD was the same way... But it was still $30 back then. We got a few 'Need to resubmits' back from the copyright.gov Gods until we got it right and I think we ended up forking over about $200.

The whole band registered the finished CD: $30
All songs written by the guitar player: $30
All songs written by the singer: $30
All songs written by the guitar AND the singer: $30

etc.

thanks for the help. Well could we just register the album as a whole for 45 and not worry about the individual songs?
