i was wondering what would happen if i submitted a song for copyright using form SR and it had a previously used sample in it, such as the string parts from Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve, though that also sampled. Even if it was a sample from a song that didn't sample before it, such as sampling Ella Fitzgerald's voice. Would i have to pay more, or would i be denied, or whats the deal.

You have to obtain permission from the original artist before using it.
Legally you have no right to use it without their permission.

Do a mix without the sample so you can at least copyright the stuff you did write.

If you copyright without permission and anyone takes you to court over it (and not necessarily the copyright owner of the sampled section, I do mean "anyone"), you stand a very good chance of having the whole copyright being found to be invalid and your work will be without protection.
