Well I have a new problem with this mix. In the beggining there is a click produced the pick hitting the strings as he is picking. I think we'll have to redo that. Maybe I'll back the mic off this time?

With that said could you guys give a listen to this song and maybe offer some more suggestions. I think this is my favorite of the 4 songs he has done thus far. I think you'll find the guitar sounds more pleasing this time.

I would have just added this to my old thread, but it wouldn't let me edit it.

In my "newbie" opinion, the vox are too loud. Maybe just too much mids in it.

Is he intentionally stuttering at :16 ("D-Drivin") @ 1:07 ("G-ground") @ 1:11 ("C-Clouds")?

the transition at :50 seems awkward...maybe more of a slide in.

I don't know how to describe this, but it sounds like the guitar is stuttering sometimes too...just "off" at various places throughout the song.

The singer starts off pretty weak, but he finishes strong. He's got a good voice...there just seems to be a little to much of it.

I'm not commenting on the song, becasue I'm assuming you didn't write it.

I think the guitars have too much reverb.

Did I say anything nice at all?

I liked it.

nice guitar tracks. Maybe back off a bit on the compression during the strumming parts. the vocals didn't quite sit back enough. And to echo Melon, the vocals ended nice and strong.

All in all, a good effort.

Yes he is intententionally doing that. I thought it was kind of cool. I am not really sure why he did it, but thats how he wrote it.

Hmmm...You don't like the way that guitar comes in?? Thats something I really liked. I think the one at 1:20 is the one that needs a little work. It is a bit weak. I guess the vox are bit loud. I'll attend to that.

Thanks for letting me know. Let the suggestions keep coming. They are really greatly appreciated.

you definitely need to do something about that pick sound..............how close are you micing the guitar? are you tracking vocals and guitar at same time? i think the vocal is at an acceptable level right now

the acoustic sounds a little better...but more so "different" than better. One thing that bothers me most is the occasional mic pop...and I'd say I heard a good dozen or so. Are you using a pop filter? If not, highly recommended. This is a nice sound, but it really screams out for a band backing, imo. That was kinda my first impression of the demo....a useless comment I suppose;) I think the guitars sound better, more so because they are double tracked, but individually not nec. better. The ending was kinda weird...like from a different song....another useless comment....sorry..I know!

On your end...the recording side...I'd like to hear a little less ambient noise if possible ...to clean things up a little better, and completely rid yourself of the "pops". You seemed pleased with your results..and this is really all that counts. I tend to like things "slickened up" a bit more, but that is a personal preference. You're getting good use out of your "budget" mics. Way to go.

Guitar sounds much better!

Think you have too much reverb on the voice though, should be more upfront and iintimate with just an acoustic.IMHO
Kind of lessens his great voice.

Some timing issues with the playing, and the begining/interlude needs to have more, instrument wise.

Not trying to be picky, you said you wanted suggestions.
Just being honest.:D

I think it's a really good song with a lot of potential!

Simple suggestion to lessen pick-noise: use a thinner pick :)

(it works ;))

Yeah the more I listen to this song, the more I think it is going to to need to be redone. Today is Friday and he is coming back Sunday to record again. Maybe we'll get that song redone. I got another song mixed down. And I'll post it in a bit.

Mixmkr - could you elaborate on "slickened up a bit more?" Maybe post an example of what you mean? I have been listening to bands like dashboard confessional and john mayer as a reference for acoustic stuff. It seems to me like dashboard confessional center (no pan) and thier guitar sounds are more compressed than mine. John mayer sounds great. I think there is definately a more "slickened up" sound with his music. I just really can't figure out what they do other than more compression.

Thanks for all the great responses

Beezo,

I really liked this song, and tho the acoustic version is nice, this would really rock with a full band. Maybe someday in the future?
Good guitar playing, great vocal talent.
