hi all,
i still havent scraped together the $ for the manual to my new 488, so i was hoping you guys could help me out again.

with my old PortaII, if you recorded something on a track, then adjusted that track's pan button, you could hear the signal shifting from left to right. but on the 488, i cant get the signal to move around the stereo spectrum when i toggle the pan button. when i listen to what i recorded, everything just comes back mono (and no, i dont have the mono button pressed down. )
can anyone help me out? thanks

Yo Ralston/Purina:]

Are you recording your track with the pan dial straight up? Do that and see if you can move the track l/f, when you're ready to mix.

Also, if you are over-dubbing, do you know you have to put each recorded track in the CUE mode to add a new track?

You might also be recording in group mode? That might have something to do with not being able to move the signal left/right.

From the manual:

"The CUE mix and MONITOR switches are also crucial for successful multitrack recording, because they control what you hear in the headphones. this CUE mix is totally independent from the Main Mix going to tape. If you don't use the CUE mix, you run the risk of accidentally "bouncing tracks" every time you record new material."

Just a tip: you might try recording your tracks with the pan knob straight up -- forget about odd/even channel routing. Then, when you play back your tracks, see if the pan knob moves the sound left/right.

Green Hornet :D ;) :p
