Annoying Java update popup when I enter the BBS:how do I make it stop?

Every time enter this BBS II get a windows pop-up message (I have XP) that says:

"To view this page correctly you need to download and install the following components:

Java Virtual Machine"

Then there's a "download" and a "cancel" button. If I hit "download" It takes me to this message on the Microsoft website:

"Posted: November 26, 2002

We're sorry. The page you are viewing requires that you have a more recent version of the Microsoft Virtual Machine on your system. To obtain an updated version of the Microsoft Virtual Machine, please go to Windows Update."

I've done that, but there is never any such update there. I can just hit the cancel button on the popup but it's annoying. What I really want to do is make it stop. How?
