Hey guys, I've set up a temporary link to a sampler song off a new album I'm working with (producing/mixing) and I wanted to swing it your way. I enjoy posting my work here for eager ears.

It's a tune called "And it Begins" from the album Killing Pedro. The album will be for sale online in late summer if you're interested.

Thanks again for your support guys.:D

Hello Lee,
REALLY PUNCHY intro.
I like th ppiano twinkling & pumping away in the midst of things.
The vocalist sounds familiar.
Things are pretty full on in the bottom end - the bass definition does quite cut through it occasionally. I can feel it & hear a little top on it but, you know me...
Good song.
Nice capture & mix. Very full on - it's excellent that the vocal gives some dynamic variation as does the top end of the piano.
Nice work.

Yea...that was a cool tune. I'd like to hear more from them.

on a side note [and you might not care] its in the pop rock category... not really a pop sound [but hey, its up in the charts lol]

Thanks for the kind words, Ray and Fats :)

I'm really enjoying mixing these set of songs. It's also really the first time I've worked under the microscope. My past projects being more of a "keep me busy" building a catalog.

We even had this meeting on how we can push it to the edge, mixing over and over until we find a style that works...

what a nightmare, but a blessing at the same time! :D

I borrowed a Blue baby bottle this time...just set the vocal right in there.

oh and as soon as we get all the legal stuff out of the way, I'll have other song samples up.

:D

My two cents -

I'd love to hear a more "modern" kick sound (but that's more of an artistic call). I also think the kick, cymbals, and vox could come up a bit. Maybe cut some mud out of the guitars? (they sound like they were very well recorded)

Overall, it's sounding pretty good, and I imagine the finished product will kick some serious ass! :D

The recordings are very nicely done. The distorted guitars seem to get a little muddy in places. I agree that the tone is very good. The vocals sound great. I'm not a drummer, so to me they sounded fine. As I listened though, I was trying to pick out the bass line, and for the most part couldn't. The mix as a whole sounds pretty darn good though.

Real words NL5 and GZ :D

I'm working on a balance of the bass as we speak. Tough for me in these "to the edge" kind of mixes.

I think the compromise I'm coming to is simply automating the bass in key places. For the most part, I think the bass will be filler to the mix. But there are fiddily bits (like just before the last chorus) that really brings it home...so I need to work out some type of system for that. Perhaps automating an EQ, compressor or just volume...

Guitars the same, let me see what it brings. Thankfully I've got till the end of the summer. :D

oh, the link has been updated.

I sat down today and re-worked the start of the first verse. Something to throw off the monogamy a bit. A little weird if you're used to hearing the first version I posted.
