I've got a D320B which is part of the same series. The D320 is an excellent dynamic vocal mic and good on cabs, toms, snare, etc. The D310 appears to be a related mic without the bass cut switches, that was not made as a handheld mic. I expect if you put it on a stand and sing into it, you'll like it. A shockmount would probably be good. And- it's not really ancient, mid 1980's vintage, I expect.-Richie
Top of that line was the D330BT which was very popular in the mid eighties. I wonder why we don't see them anymore, like the Senny MD421/441, which is vintage as well, but still very popular these days, not to mention the Beyer M88 and M201. These are classics and you can find them in almost any studio.
The AKG D300 series has become a bit rare if you ask me, but I may be wrong?
No, not rare at all. You see them on ebay all the time, and they go for around $50- a steal. They're just not that well known, but they are durable, great sounding, versatile, dynamic mics.-Richie
