Analogue outputs OK for monitoring? (possible dumb question)

Yes.

I am using an M Audio 2496 card connected to Mackie HR 624's (through my 1402VLZPro) and it works just fine!

The card you are interested in has +4 db outputs, which are hot enough to drive any powered monitor.
