analog to digital

is there any way to convert analog siginal to a digital format, any digital format so i can get it on my pc. i know it is possible for imsane amounts of money, but i know of a few things for the $300 and up range. is there any thing cheeper or if not what does it the best?

Any descent Audiocard will do this. Like an Audiophile 2496 as an example. You can pick em up new on ebay sometimes for less than $200
