(Figured I'd get more help on this thread)
I am in the market for (mostly) a PCI ADAT card & interface I can use for simultaneous multi track recording. I have been doing some research for equipment in my price range (entry level for the most part) and came across the EMU 1212M PCI card with ADAT in and out and the Behringer ADA 8000 ultragain pro, which is basically an 8 channel pre amp with adat ins and outs with a world clock.

Now I dont know much about adat or world clocking for that matter. Just that they can carry multiple channels at low latency.

(Note: I would not be using the behringer pre's as I have an analog soundcraft mixer that I can run my channels thru)

Is this worth the cash? or is there other equipment I can consider?

OK, then I am confused. If you don't know much about ADAT, then what makes you think you need an interface with ADAT I/O? Not being a smartass, just trying to understand your reasoning.

For example: Do you have other digital equipment with ADAT outputs that you intend to connect to your interface?

Same thing with Word Clock. It would be necessary if you intend to sync several digital interfaces and other equipment to each other. Otherwise it's not necessary. Plus, I wouldn't trust the clock in either the EMU or the Behri to be used as clock master anyway.

I have the ADA 8000. The preamps are just fine. You say you came across the Behringer. Does that mean you got it or saw it somewhere? Or are you going to buy it but have already decided you don't like the preamps?

no i dont own it. just been researching it online. I dont mean to say the pres are bad, its just my mixing board has phantom power so I dont need to use the behringers.

The whole idea of what you are doing is to get your music into your computer where you can edit it, no?
The Behringer has 8 preamps, all with phantom power and all leading into the EMU via lightpipe. Adding a mixer to this, unless you have a reason to, will increase the risk of interference/noise.
Either way, you're looking at some nice gear.
Have fun with it.
