I have been going crazy trying to record from my mastered tapes to the computer. I get terrible, popping or skipping in the final products.

I have P4 Dell...

I use only the onboard sound card. Any Ideas on how to get rid of the popping.

not sure about your setup. If you are going into the computer from a source other than "line out" make sure you turn down the volume on your analog source. I really don't know too much about this but remember its a computer not a receiver.

Clean Your tray the popping is a result of a program running at the same time as your recording.

Unplugging the fridge can also help with the voltage spikes

have dedicated power set up for computer use only sure its gonna cost you to get the electrical guy in but isnt this better then loosing all your hair or going grey or both

also have clean power running to your pc and make sure all cabling is routes correctly if you are running speakers also anywhere near the pc etc keep speaker cable away from power cords etc as well

Close out as many of the TSR's you have running if you have some kind of recovery program installed like go back or something like that you need to shut down the polling end of it and also check your msconfig for programs like savenow or webhancer, bonzi buddy all these are constantly checking your system so that when you get online they can send info to their webserver. You can do the 3 finger salute to see what is running Ctrl, Alt, Del

I was going to suggest the same thing that mapeterson suggeted. ALT - CTRL - DELETE (simultaneously) so you can turn off the programs in the background that you don't need running.
