But seriously...an analog mixer handles your audio analog, and normally only does the mixing/eq thingie. A digital mixer on the other hand does
the internal mixing digital (which means the audio is converted at the input stage) and normally has some extra features like effects and dynamics.
Which is better? that completly depends on the pricerange and needed features. if you allready have some outboard gear, you might prefer an analog desk. If you don't you might prefer the all in one digital desks.
What are you recording on? Outboard tape or disk, or computer. If you are recording on computer the sound of the soundcards analog to digital converter will be very important. When using a digital desk you have normally the option to output your mix digital (and than offcourse input digital into your soundcard if it has one)
Normally at this point the big discussion about digital versus analog boards start...but let's say that has been covered a thousand times before on this board so do a search and decide for yourself.......( though my opinion is very clear on this matter...I have used and owned several digital consoles and analog consoles and find them both very usefull. My current analog desk sounds better then
my 02r but it costs more than 8 times as much.....
my 02r sounds better than my old dynacord band rehearsel desk but it costs more than 8 times as much.....)
