Learning, always learning
I live in an area that is never really quiet outdoors for doing any type of outdoor recording. I've got a 424mkII that I've tried recording a thunderstorm with recently. I just ran two mics (on tabletop tripod mounts) out the back door and spaced apart on the covered patio. The problem is that there is a small airport down the road and I inevitably catch an airplane coming around when I try to record the storm. If it isn't the planes, it's the rain running off the roof hitting the damn A/C compressor about 4 feet away or the puddles that form from not having any gutters.

Any suggestions or does someone have their own 2 track recording of a thunderstorm? If not, would it be possible for anyone to capture one for me? I just need about 5 - 10 minutes worth. I know this is probably a totally whacked out request but I've got an idea that I'm trying to lay down and I need that background track.

Thanks in advance,

Johnny

Hi Johnny,
not an unreasonable request, but maybe a time consuming (set-up wise) and 'fiddly'one!

There are many Sound FX files on the net, many of very high quality that can be 'looped' in parts to achieve the durations you require..

Could that work for you?

Regards,
Spit.

Never thought of that. I'll have to google around and see what I turn up. I just didn't want something that sounded too compressed. Thanks for the lead.

I found some royalty free CDs that I can probably use.:)
